Can We Talk?!?

I really, really love this theme this week over at Every Inchie Monday.  Talking is what I do; and let me tell you I do it WELL!!!!  LOL.  If you ask my Mom, I came out talking and have not shut up since!  Most babies will start to babble around 4 or 5 months old and parents are always big smiles when this happens.  I know I was when my kids started doing it, just as I am sure you all were.

But not me!  From what many of the family have said, I never did the "baby talk", I skipped that and went straight into non-stop adult-type conversation (much to my poor Mothers dismay).  There is a story my Mom has told many times and I felt that it fit in greatly here.

One day my Mom was sitting on the porch reading a book, I was on the floor playing.  A man walks up, introduces himself and lets my Mom know that he is new to the neighborhood.  They continue talking for a few minutes and I look up at him and ask, "How do you like the neighborhood?"  The man's eye grow big and he looks to my Mom and asks, "Did she....?  Did she just say that?"  My Mother gives off a rough sigh and says "Yes she did."  "But, how old is she?" he asks.  Again, my Mom sighs and says, "9 months old."

I grew up hearing my Mom say to me, "One day you will pay for your raising."  Well, that happened when my Son was born.  He has his Mothers gift for gab.  For example, one day Me, my Husband, and both my kids were driving to town.  My Son was about 5 years old.  Me an my Husband were trying to talk but my Son would not let us get a word in edgewise.  I finally said to him to just be quiet for 5 seconds.  He assured me that he could do it, he went on for about 15 seconds on how he could be quiet.  Again, I asked him, "Please be quiet for 30 seconds, no talking for 30 seconds please." quietly from his seat we heard, "1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand..."He counted all the way to 30!  Then proudly announced, "I did it!  I told you I could be quiet for 30 seconds!".  By then we were both laughing so hard that we were in tears!  I can't wait to remind him one day that he will pay for his raising as well!  LOL  Paybacks! Well, I can say that we do not lead dull lives!  LOL.

Now, onto my inchie.  This weeks inchie was an easy one.  I thought about what we all used to say to people when we wanted to talk.  "Call me!"  Of course, now it is "text me."  But back in the day.  We all loved to talk on the phone.

I used 2 colors of Delicas, yellow and a very dark brown, I know it looks like black but it is brown.

Thanks for stopping by for a chat.  Don't forget to fly on over to EIM and check out all the great artwork the ladies there have come up with.  Don't forget to leave me a little comment, I would love to know what you think.  Have a blessed and creative day.

  1. What a great story! I'm not so talkative at all, but my kids make up for that ;-) Lovely inchie, I really like the beadwork. I did some beadwork myself a few years ago. It's a bit crooked, but I loved making it. If you would like to see it: http://margriets-miniatures.blogspot.nl/2011/06/lighthouse-wallhanging.html

  2. That's because you have a lot to say! And good on you for speaking out. I learned to read when I was 4 - proper, newspaper reading, bypassing the stammering syllable stage. So here's to us, communicators! Feel free to email me :) Terrific inchie! Talk to you soon :)

  3. Ha ah ha ha! I can just imagine! I can't remember my early talking days but my brother had his own language for some words. Reading was another matter as I was "reading" upside down at 3 having learnt the books by heart from repetition but reading French at the age of 5 meant that I didn't actually understand that I could read English until I was turned 8!

  5. Loved the story. My parents would beg me to stop talking, and even worse (for them) to stop singing the same song over and over and ..... I talk to my dog all day because my hubby doesn't even listen anymore HAHA! Anyway, the inchie is wonderful too. I'm impressed that you could write in it.

  6. Nice inchie.... I think the talent to speak to persuade and enlighten has been eclipsed by social media. It's really a sad thing to see.

  8. Tina, I was also a talker. Except at school. I was shy around other kids I was smaller than them and younger. I had skipped kindergarten so I was in 1st grade early. At home I was the oldest and the one who "talked" for the others. I had to learn to talk to other people. Now I can't shut up. Teehee. 😊

  10. my comment from earlier in the week seems not to have been published - don't worry, I didn't miss you. I was exactly the opposite as a child. It wasn't that I couldn't talk, but that I wouldn't Especially to someone I didn't know, even if they were friends of my parents. My parents were quite worried about me. I still don't talk very much! Love your inchie. Your colour choice is spectacular - love the very dark brown, makes a more subtle difference than black.
