Creativity is the Key

Hiya everyone and thanks for stopping by the nest this week.  I have suddenly gotten a bit of creativity as of lately.  I have been working on a few Facebook group challenges, none done as of yet. Also, I have been working on Christmas ornaments, slowly, but I have been working on them.

It seems that this time of year I get really creative, mostly because I have to get Christmas ornaments done and like every year I seem to procrastinate on them.  Why do we do that?  I am not sure but I wish I could figure it out.  Maybe I will look into it tomorrow, or maybe the next day?  Hmmm, I think I am seeing a pattern here.

This week over at Every Inchie Monday the theme is Key.  I have to say I love old skeleton keys.  They are so ornate and always make me think of Victorian times.  They also remind me of secrets.  Secret safes, boxes and special places that Victorian women used to hide special letters from their lovers.  Maybe I am reading too much into a key, ya think?  Probably, but still I like those thoughts.  Makes me smile more than thinking of keys as a device used to hide things from people that we just don't trust.

With this inchie I used 2 colors of Delicas.  I designed 2 keys laying opposite to each other.  Hope you like them.

Also this week I followed some instructions from a Facebook group and made my own Bead on it Board.  Mine is similar to the $120 one.  But mine cost about $12.  90% off the price and I really like mine.  I made it from a pet bed, foam core, and a bead mat.  I really like it alot.  Check this out.

This week I also got a new loom.   I have been wanting to get it and try and see if it was any good.  I really like it.  It is called the Clover mini bead loom.  Here is what it looks like.

It took a bit to catch on to the beading of it and I messed up my tension on one side but that was just me and not the loom itself.   But I like it and will be using it again.  The thing about this loom is that it only does small work, work that is 1" x 2" or less.  So of course I had to play with it and I designed and made this small inchie amulet.  In this amulet I used 7 colors of Metallic Delicas.  I have yet to figure out the necklace part, but that isn't the important part, is it?  LOL

Isn't it cute?  I think so.  Lastly, this week I had an idea for something. A pendant maybe, I just had the idea and wanted to figure out how to work it out.  After 2 tries I got it.

I used 8/0 seed beads, 11/0 seed beads, 2-hole triangles, and a gemstone coin bead.  I really like this.  It looks like what I wanted it to look like.  Now I just have to figure out a way to attach it to something; a necklace or a bracelet.  But for now I just like the look of it.

Now time to get back to the Christmas ornaments.  Please check out EIM and see what other keys the artists have come up with this week, and thanks for leaving the comments, it really brightens up my day.  Have a blessed and creative week.

I love that you made your own bead on it board. I am sure you will enjoy using it even more just because you made it yourself and saved a bundle! Cool!

  3. It's so interesting to learn of all the different instruments that are out there. It's normal to you, but that beading mat looks so exotic to me. Of course, all of us with cats would have worked out how to make a cheap one :) Maybe I should show some exotic quilling tools. That amulet is quite stunning. So is the rest of your work. What about a brooch or a hat pin for the round piece. So spring racing carnivals down here at the moment, so it would go well in a fascinator or a hat for the races. The keys are just beautiful!

    1. Thanks Zoe. I had not thought about a brooch. What a great idea. I am always curious about the tools we use for crafting. Fishing line for beading. Pet beads for bead boards. Us crafters are crafty people. The idea for the board started on Facebook with a picture frame, then went to the pet bed. I love crafty cheats.

  5. Just love your inchie keys and amulet. The bead bed is a fab idea, saves them rolling about all over the place. Isn't it great when you can hear the bead bounce on the floor, but you can never find it. !!!

  7. I have always love skeleton keys too, so I love your inchie. When I was a child, I always envied people who carried a lot of keys and vowed that when I was an adult, I would carry lots of keys too. Unfortunately, my wish came true LOL! Don't you just love making and getting new toys for your crafts? Me too :)
